Dozens of World Book Night Givers are roaming the streets of Miami today, looking for someone in need of a free book. World Book Night promotes adult literacy by targeting light and non-readers, the idea being that everyone is a book-lover; some just haven’t met the right story.
So if you run into a Giver, don’t worry – they’re not cult members, they’re just fervent folks who want to introduce you to the best form of entertainment there is – books. They’re cheap and plentiful. Plus, they’re your only opportunity to step outside yourself and see the world through someone else’s perspective.
This year, for the first time, you don’t even need to talk to strangers to get your freebie on.
World Book Night has partnered with livrada so you can download a free ebook from the comfort of your own home. And guess what? It features my essay on life in Florida, “It Grows on You.”
I’ve got to say, it was a kick seeing my name on a table of contents. Particularly in such fine company. So treat yourself to some good stories, and consider becoming a WBN Giver for 2015.
